5 Players Claimed on Waivers As Teams Set Final Rosters

There were a couple of notable names and a couple of goaltenders among the five players who were claimed on waivers on Monday, as NHL teams get their rosters finalized for the start of the season.

James Reimer is the most notable name on this list. He gets claimed by the Anaheim Ducks from the Buffalo Sabres. The 14-year veteran goalie has a .910 career save percentage. He played six seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs to start his career, while also playing with the Florida Panthers, the San Jose Sharks, the Carolina hurricanes, and last season the Detroit Red Wings.

Jiri Patera was re-claimed by the Vancouver Canucks from the Boston Bruins, just four days after the Bruins claimed him off waivers from the Canucks. The B's, of course, finally signed their starting netminder Jeremy Swayman on Sunday, prompting them to waive Patera, who was only there as an insurance policy in case Swayman wasn't on the roster to start the season.

The Edmonton Oilers lost depth forward Raphael Lavoie to the Vegas Golden Knights, who also claimed forward Cole Schwindt from the Calgary Flames.

The Columbus Blue Jackets added Zach Aston-Reese off the waiver wire. The 30-year-old bottom-six center went undrafted but finished his college career at Northeastern in 2016-17 by leading the NCAA in scoring with 31 goals and 63 points in 38 games. In 310 NHL games through seven seasons he has recorded 80 points, playing with the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Ducks, the Leafs and the Red Wings.
