Analysts Offer 6 Potential Trade Destinations for Jeremy Swayman

As the Jeremy Swayman Drama continues to play out publicly, the unrestricted free agent sits at home and the Boston Bruins must decide if they feel there’s some common ground that can be reached on a new contract, or if they must seriously start considering a trade.

Certainly, other teams have their radars up, as do hockey analysts and insiders all over the sport.

The latest reports have a total of  6 teams noted as potential trade destinations:

Chicago Blackhawks

This is a team that's ready to give their rebuild a power boost, and as Ryan Dixon of Sportsnet notes, "Swayman could certainly help the rebuild shift into arrival mode." They are about $6 million under the cap, and could send a competent goalie in Petr Mrazek and his $4.25 million contract back, giving them the space to sign Swayman.

Colorado Avalanche

We brought up the Avs as a potential fit earlier this week. Mike Gould of Daily Faceoff agrees. In fact, he says "Colorado’s urgency for a solution in goal far outstrips that of Chicago and arguably every other team in the league."

Detroit Red Wings

If the Wings really want to be contenders, they'll need to land a top-notch goaltender, and as Gould notes, until they do, "it’s difficult to take them seriously."

Philadelphia Flyers

Are any of Ivan Fedotov, Samuel Ersson or Alexei Kolosov a true No. 1 between the pipes for a team with playoff aspirations like the Flyers? That remains to be seen, but Swayman is certainly an upgrade on any of them, and sending one back to the Bruins would help Boston plug the hole for the time being.

Utah HC

We also talked about this one earlier in the week. They have the cap space ($9.9 million) to likely be able to meet Swayman’s demands, and they have some young players/prospects to send to Boston to get a deal done.

Vegas Golden Knights

Anytime there's a shiny new toy out there to be had, this is a team that will try to make a splash. As Dixon notes, however, the cap callisthenics would be difficult.
