Blackhawks Rumors: Connor Bedard "Frustrated" With Losing
Bedard’s visible dissatisfaction has sparked discussions about whether the Blackhawks might accelerate their rebuild to keep their young star engaged.
On 32 Thoughts: The Podcast, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman shared that while Bedard remains committed to Chicago, his competitive nature is unmistakable, noting, “Bedard’s a competitor, and that drive likely has Chicago’s front office thinking about how to keep him satisfied while balancing the longer-term plan.”
Bedard: "We're not just going to be happy that we stayed in a game. We're all NHL players; that's not the goal, you know? It's frustrating. We're what, 2-7? That's pretty bad. Losing is not fun, so we've obviously got to figure it out."

The Blackhawks made moves in the offseason to support Bedard’s transition, adding veterans like Teuvo Teravainen, Tyler Bertuzzi, and Nick Foligno, yet the team’s early struggles suggest that more help may be needed.
Chicago reportedly made a bid to sign Jake Guentzel before he joined Tampa Bay, showing their intent to add high-impact players alongside Bedard.
David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period recently suggested that Chicago is eyeing potential second-line centers, though the front office remains cautious, with Pagnotta observing, “The Blackhawks might be open to testing the waters,” while mindful not to jeopardize their rebuild timeline.
“He’s just frustrated. He wants to win.”

With 11 first- and second-round picks over the next three years, the Blackhawks have the assets to make a substantial move if the right opportunity arises.
However, the team is wary of overcorrecting their rebuild to appease Bedard’s competitive urgency.
As Friedman summarized, “The Blackhawks need to be careful with how fast they try to progress, ensuring they don’t take unnecessary risks just to appease their star forward.”
