Brad Marchand Disputes Report About Extension
During Hockey Night in Canada Saturday night, Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman reported that a contract extension was close between the Boston Bruins and pending UFA Brad Marchand. But the B's captain has come out and denied the report, calling it false.
Equal time: Per @masslivesports, Brad Marchand said the following report was false. We will see how things play out.https://t.co/EobF9UwAZV

"The word is that the Bruins and Marchand are getting closer on an extension that’s expected to be three years," reported Friedman from his sources. "We’ll see what happens in the next little bit, but the word is that they’re getting closer.”
But Marchand spoke to MassLive after Boston's 4-3 overtime win over the Toronto Maple Leafs and flat-out said that's not the case.
I’m not big about talking about contract stuff in the media. But that report from Elliotte is false. Elliotte is just wrong. That’s about it.
The 36-year-old is in his 16th NHL season, all with the Bruins and is showing that he hasn't slowed down too much, with six points in nine games this year, including the overtime winner Saturday night.

Marchand is coming off no less than three offseason surgeries, and is wrapping up an 8-year contract with a $6.125 AAV. He'll be an unrestricted free agent if the two sides cannot come to an agreement by July 1st.
