Calgary Flames to Sign Tyson Barrie

According to NHL insider Frank Seravalli, the Calgary Flames have signed defenseman Tyson Barrie to a one-year, $1.25 million contract.
Barrie was invited to the Flames' training camp with a professional tryout (PTO) contract. Clearly, the veteran defenseman has impressed, as he has now earned a deal for the season with the rebuilding Flames.

Barrie will provide the Flames with another option for the right side of their defense. In addition, he should also get time on their power play, as he is, of course, known for his effectiveness while on the man advantage.

Barrie, 33, is coming off a tough 2023-24 season with the Nashville Predators. In 41 games last season with the Central Division club, the 5-foot-11 defenseman had one goal, 15 points, and a minus-10 rating. He was also the subject of several healthy scratches due to falling down the club's depth chart.

Given Barrie's past success, he could have the potential to bounce back next season. For example, just back in 2022-23, he had 13 goals and 55 points in 85 games split between the Edmonton Oilers and Predators.

We will now need to wait and see how much of an impact Barrie makes with the Flames from here.
