Chicago Blackhawks Send Kevin Korchinski & Frank Nazar to AHL

The Chicago Blackhawks have cut top prospects Kevin Korchinski and Frank Nazar from their training camp roster and sent them down to the Rockford IceHogs.

In addition to Korchinki and Nazar, Louis Crevier and AJ Spellacy have also been re-assigned to the IceHogs.

Korchinski, 20, spent the entirety of this past season with the Blackhawks. In 76 games with the Original Six club, the 2022 seventh-overall pick had five goals, 20 points, and a minus-39 rating.

When noting that Korchinski played all of last season with the Blackhawks and has high potential, it is a little surprising to see him being sent down. However, at the same time, he may benefit from getting big minutes at the AHL level. He also should get called back up during the season.

Nazar, 20, is another one of the Blackhawks' top prospects, so it is also notable that he is being sent down to the AHL. However, when noting that they added an array of forwards this summer, like Tyler Bertuzzi, Teuvo Teravainen, Ilya Mikheyev, Pat Maroon, and Craig Smith. Thus, their forward group is a little packed, so having Nazar have a more significant role in the NHL could benefit him.

Nazar just finished his collegiate career last year with the University of Michigan, recording 17 goals and 41 points in 41 points. The 2022 13th overall pick also played in his first three NHL games with Chicago, scoring a goal.
