Ducks Rumors: Analyst Predicts When The Ducks Will Trade Trevor Zegras

ESPN analyst Greg Wyshynski has predicted that the Anaheim Ducks will trade Trevor Zegras after the 2024-25 season, ending ongoing speculation about his future with the team.

Zegras, one of the NHL's most dynamic offensive players, had a disappointing 2023-24 season, scoring just 15 points in 31 games before suffering a broken ankle.

Despite his recent struggles, Zegras remains under contract through 2025-26, giving the Ducks the luxury of time to decide his fate. Wyshynski suggests that Anaheim GM Pat Verbeek could be waiting for Zegras' value to rebound before making a move.

Zegras' trade candidacy first gained traction last January, but Verbeek chose not to move him when his value was low due to injuries and a contract dispute.

Wyshynski now believes the Ducks may look to deal him in the offseason if he improves his performance.

"The guess here is that he's moved in the offseason, with one year left before restricted free agency," Wyshynski said. The Ducks could leverage a stronger 2024-25 season from Zegras to maximize his trade value, especially if his stats inflate enough to "entice trade partners to really up their antes."

The Ducks, who are reshaping their roster for the future, could view a Zegras trade as a chance to address other areas of need.

Anaheim will likely evaluate Zegras' performance this season before making any final decisions, with the potential for a trade looming next summer.

Over his four-year career, the former ninth-overall pick has recorded 55 goals and 99 assists for 154 total points across 211 games played.
