Former Maple Leafs & Flames D-Man Mark Giordano Eyeing 4 Teams to Continue Career

The oldest player in the NHL, Mark Giordano is not ready to hang up the blades just yet. According to hockey insider Chris Johnson, the former Norris Trophy winner has named four teams that he's considering as "appealing" destinations.

According to hockey insiders Chris Johnston and Pierre LeBruin in The Athletic, Giordano says that the Edmonton Oilers, Winnipeg Jets, Carolina Hurricanes and New York Rangers are among teams that he views as "appealing opportunities." Whether the feeling is mutual for those four teams wasn't actually specified.

Now age 41, Giordano slipped on the depth chart last season with the Toronto Maple Leafs, and was a healthy scratch on many occasions, playing in just 46 games. But he wants one more shot on a Stanley Cup contender, and certainly, most of the teams he professes to be considering would qualify for that status, though some more strongly than others. He can still play, and could fill a nice depth/leadership role.

Giordano won the Norris Trophy as the league's top defenseman in 2018-19 with the Calgary Flames at the age of 35, posting a career-high 74 points in 78 games with an NHL-best plus/minus rating of +39.
