Insider Reports On Tortorella Status Amidst Brutal Flyers Start

The Philadelphia Flyers were supposed to struggle like this last season, but wound up being in playoff positioning until late in the year. Unfortunately, they followed up that promising campaign with a brutal 1-5-1 start this season.

As the rumor mill likes to do, 'Coaches on the Hot Seat' questions start emerging just about now for teams that are struggling around the league. But for those wondering about the status of Philly head coach John Tortorella, insider Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff tells us, essentially, there's nothing to see here.

He isn’t going anywhere. Tortorella has the complete and total support of the organization. The Flyers believe Tortorella is the best possible coach to mold and teach their young roster. Plus, he has this season and next remaining on his contract at $4 million per year. They know they aren’t ready to win yet, though they expect to make significant progress this season.

Torts, despite the bad start, is still in fine form, having a 'disagreement' on the bench with defenseman Nick Seeler earlier this week, and giving his usual Torts-like answer when the media asked him about it afterwards.

The Flyers found themselves in a playoff spot as of the trade deadline last season, in 3rd place in the Metropolitan Division, but went 5-10-3 the rest of the way to drop out of the playoff picture.

They'll try to shake off this year's tough start, having gone winless in six games since their season-opening shootout victory in Vancouver.
