Latest Update Revealed on Connor McDavid's Status
Edmonton Oilers fans have been holding their breath waiting for word on the status of Connor McDavid, who went down in the first minute of the team's horrendous 6-1 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Monday.
Insider Elliotte Friedman first revealed this morning that they've avoided the worst-case scenario, and that the best player in the world should only be out for somewhere in the range of two weeks.
Good news as, thankfully, the worst-case scenario is averted with Connor McDavid.

Looking like at least a couple of weeks, but exact timeline TBD.

The Oilers officially followed up with an announcement that it was indeed an ankle injury and that it will be "two to three weeks."

Ok, so that's certainly not the worst news. Though the team's performance in that last game after he went down is not a good omen. It's been another shaky start to the season for the Oilers, now sitting at 4-5-1 and in 7th place in the Pacific Division. The last thing they can afford is to lose McDavid for an extended period.
Can they survive two to three weeks? Right now, it's looking like anywhere from seven to 11 games that he would be out, but the schedule isn't doing them any favours. Some of those upcoming games are against the likes of the Calgary Flames, New Jersey Devils, Vegas Golden Knights, Vancouver Canucks and Toronto Maple Leafs.
McDavid has 10 points in 10 games (yes, a bit of a slow start for him), with a plus/minus rating of +4. And while losing him for the next two weeks or so is the last thing the Oilers need as they try to right the ship, the team and its fans are likely breathing a sigh of relief at this news that it wasn't more significant.
