Maple Leafs Sign Stanley Cup Champ Steven Lorentz After Successful PTO

He brings exactly what the Toronto Maple Leafs need to the fourth line—a heavy and physical game with his 6'4" frame. After a successful PTO this preseason, Lorentz has been rewarded with a one-year contract by the Leafs.

It's a minimum salary deal at $775,000. The team also made official the signing of Max Pacioretty (which we reported on over the weekend) for $873,300 (plus an additional $626,230 in games played bonuses). It should all add up to $1.5 million after he appears in at least 35 games.

Lorentz won a Stanley Cup as a depth forward with the Florida Panthers last season, killing some penalties and bringing that energy and physicality. He's new Toronto coach Craig Berube's kind of player.

“Plays very heavy, very direct. He knows his role to a tee and he plays to it every night," said Auston Matthews on Lorentz. "He’s got a great attitude and comes to the rink with lots of jump.”

In 230 NHL games, the 28-year-old has handed out 317 hits in 10:47 average ice time, while picking up 21 goals and 43 points.
