NHL Trade Rumors: Central Division Team "Took Long Look At Cam Fowler"

Insider Elliotte Friedman recently reported that the St. Louis Blues have taken a "long look" at Anaheim Ducks defenseman Cam Fowler, sparking speculation that the veteran blue-liner could be a trade target this season.

With Torey Krug out due to a long-term injury, the Blues are in need of a puck-moving defenseman who can contribute offensively, and Fowler, who carries a $6.5 million cap hit through 2025-26, fits that mold.

Having spent 14 seasons with Anaheim, Fowler is just 26 games shy of reaching 1,000 career NHL games and could provide the experience and leadership the Blues need to stay competitive in the Central Division.

Friedman added, "He’s a good player who can help a good team," but with salary cap constraints across the league, any potential deal could take time to materialize.

Beyond St. Louis, other teams have also expressed interest in Fowler, including the Ottawa Senators and Nashville Predators.

Ottawa is reportedly seeking a replacement for Jakob Chychrun, who was traded earlier, and Nashville views Fowler as a "luxury addition" to bolster their defense for a playoff push, especially after acquiring Steven Stamkos and Jonathan Marchessault.

While Fowler's four-team no-trade clause could complicate negotiations, Friedman noted that the defenseman might be open to expanding his list of preferred destinations as Anaheim continues its rebuild.
