Oettinger is Latest Goalie To Nab Long-Term Extension

The Dallas Stars have locked up top goaltender Jake Oettinger on a deal that is exactly the same in AAV and term as the Boston Bruins' recent signing of Jeremy Swayman. Eight years, $66 million.

The Oettinger signing is the latest in a recent string of nearly identical long-term deals for goalies, as Swayman, Linus Ullmark, Ilya Sorokin and Connor Hellebuyck have all also signed deals that are in the exact same range.

Only Helleybuyck is at $8.5M AAV, the rest are all at the $8.25M mark annually.

As reported by insider Frank Seravalli, this agreement with the Stars and their No. 1 netminder came together relatively quick, as the two sides had not even engaged at this time one week ago.

Igor Shesterkin of the New York Rangers, however, is the one remaining holdout, and he, of course, is looking to blow all of those out of the water, as he recently turned down an $11M AAV, $88 million total offer.

Oettinger, 25, has a career .914 save percentage in four years (plus 3 starts this season), along with a 2.49 goals against. He has a 116-48-23 record.

He's now the 4th-highest paid Dallas Star, behind Tyler Seguin ($9.85 million AAV), Jamie Benn ($9.5 million), and Miro Heiskanen ($8.45M).
