Ottawa Senators Lose Shane Pinto For Extended Period

A tough break for the Ottawa Senators today, who announced that middle-six center Shane Pinto is now listed as being out "week to week."

The injury is as yet undisclosed, and it's not even clear when it occurred. He played in the Senators' 4-0 win over the Utah Hockey Club last Tuesday, right through to the final buzzer, but then missed a couple of practices the rest of the week and was listed as a game-time decision for their game against the Vegas Golden Knights Friday night. He did not play in that contest, nor in their game against the Colorado Avalanche on Sunday.

It's troubling news for Pinto, who was hoping for a fresh start this season after all the controversy he endured in 2023-24. First, his 2023 offseason was marked by the lack of a contract, as his unsigned RFA status lingered through the start of the season, until the NHL revealed in late October that he was suspended for 41 games for violating gambling rules.

He came back in the second half, signed a two-year bridge deal for $3.75 million and went on to record nine goals and 27 points in 41 games. He had burst onto the scene in his rookie year the prior season with 20 goals.

Now it'll be another shortened season for Pinto in Ottawa. He has three points in six games to start the year.
