Penguins' Tristan Jarry sent back to Pittsburgh during team's road trip

The Pittsburgh Penguins have a goaltending issue. Presumed starter Tristan Jarry has not been able to find his game early on this season, and the team has made a surprising decision to send Jarry back home to Pittsburgh, even though the team is on a road trip through western Canada.

Jarry has posted a 1-1-0 record so far this season, with a 5.47 GAA and .836 Sv.%. Alex Nedeljkovic and rookie Joel Blomqvist will man the Penguins crease for now, while the team gets set to play the Edmonton Oilers on Friday.

The tough part for Jarry, is the fact he's from western Canada, playing his junior hockey in Edmonton, and could have faced off against his childhood favorite Vancouver Canucks on Saturday. Timing is everything. Jarry has three years left on his contract at $5.37 million and owns a 12-team no-trade clause. To this point, there hasn't been much traction reported on the trade market.

Head coach Mike Sullivan spoke to NHL.com and had this to say about his goaltending situation:

It’s just part of the process that we’ve put in place here over the next little while to try to get Tristan to his very best. He’s a high-quality goaltender. He’s a high-quality person. This guy has been an important part of our organization for a number of years now. He’s played a lot of solid goaltending for us. The first couple of starts that he’s had haven’t been his best. I’m probably stating the obvious.

The Penguins an early-season reset can get Jarry back on track, sooner than later.
