Report: Buffalo Sabres' GM in trade talks to add to roster
According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, the Buffalo Sabres are involved in trade talks, as GM Kevyn Adams is looking to add to his roster. Friedman mentioned Adams' aspirations in his recent 32 Thoughts article:
One of the more active early-season general managers is Buffalo’s Kevyn Adams, but he’s made it clear he does not wish to subtract. He’s trying to add.
The Sabres have started the season 4-5-1 through 10 games and are desperately trying to get back into the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Adams job might depend on it. The Sabres executive has been under a ton of pressure the past year or so, as questionable decision after questionable decision is starting to raise eye brows with the fan base, and could eventually cost Adams his job.
Adams took a lot of heat over an offseason trade with the Edmonton Oilers to acquire Ryan McLeod. So far through 10 games, McLeod has scored four times and added one assist. The Sabres have been getting less than ideal goaltending so far from both Devon Levi and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, however it's not expected the team would be interested in moving either netminder.
Ideally, the Sabres are likely adding up front and someone with experience who can be versatile enough to play within the middle six. Adams has $7.1 million in cap space to work with, and all of his draft picks the next three years, as well as an additional fourth-round pick in 2025, so there's lots at his disposal to complete a trade.
Keep an eye on the Sabres, it does sound like trade talks league wide have picked up in a major way, with Buffalo's GM actively involved.
