Report: Colorado Avalanche trying to trade for forward help

According to hockey insider Elliotte Friedman, the Colorado Avalanche are scrolling the trade market, looking to make a move to acquire a forward. The Avs' roster has been hit hard with injuries and they're likely looking to leverage some prospect depth or draft capital to acquire an experienced forward they can insert immediately into their lineup.

Friedman reported on the Avs ambitions on his most recent 32 Thoughts article:

You will not be surprised to hear Colorado is looking for forwards. Need to get through a miserable stretch where five of their top nine are out.

The Avalanche are off to a 5-6-0 start to the season, doing so without the likes of Gabriel Landeskog, Valeri Nichushkin and have since put Artturi Lehkonen, Ross Colton, Jonathan Drouin, and Tucker Poolman on injured reserve.

GM Chris MacFarland has $5.5 million in available cap space to work with, however there's going to be lots of moving parts once everyone is healthy. Colorado owns just one pick in the first three rounds next draft, and may have to look to 2026 to move a pick, or deal one of their top prospects to find an impact roster player.

Keep an eye on the Avalanche as a trade appears to be right around the corner. There's a very good chance their trade partner comes from the Eastern Conference, as not many teams in the west will be lining up to help them navigate their injury troubles.
