Report: "A Number of Teams" Continue To Target Trevor Zegras

He was one of the bigger names on the rumor mill this past offseason (and even as far back as the trade deadline), but youngster Trevor Zegras remains an Anaheim Duck for now.

That doesn't mean, however, that will continue to be the case. Currently, the one-time splashy star center of the future in Anaheim is now a third-line winger, and his name is still getting some buzz.

Insider David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period indicates that the chatter on Zegras is far from dying down, and that he is still on plenty of teams' radars.

One guy that I think a number of teams will continue to target is Trevor Zegras in Anaheim. Nothing is immiment there... Teams also want to figure out if he's a center or a winger.

At this point, it's all about Zegras getting back to his freshman form and having a good season—be it on the wing or at center—and if so, says Pagnotta, things could pick up.

Let's see him get onto a full 82 game season. Can he excel? If he does, may be a change of scenery won't be the worst thing for him, and it would certainly maximize the return for the Ducks.

Now, 23, Zegras burst onto the scene with an exciting first two seasons in Anaheim, with back-to-back 23-goal seasons, while averaging 63 points those two years. Then came 2023-24, which was a total write-off. Injuries ate into a majority of his year, and poor performance when he did play saw him register only six goals in 31 games. He's in the second year of a three-year deal with a $5.75 million cap hit.

So far this campaign, he has one goal and one assist in six games, playing 17:12 per night.
