Alexis Lafreniere Locked In By Rangers With Long-Term Extension

Just when it seemed like things were on hold earlier this week, the New York Rangers went and stepped up their efforts to get former No. 1 overall pick Alexis Lafreniere signed to an extension. And it's paid off with a seven-year deal.

Rangers insider Larry Brooks was the first to report it, and PuckPedia has confirmed that the extension comes with a $7.45 million AAV. He'll have an eight-team no-trade list in years 3 through 7 of the deal.

Lafreniere was a pending RFA and is wrapping up a two-year deal with a $2.325 million cap hit. He has started the season with a bang, with four goals and seven points in seven games with top-line ice time.

Last season, the 23-year-old registered 28 goals and 29 assists for 57 points in 82 games in 17:16 minutes played per contest, all career highs.

The Rangers made Lafreniere the top pick in the 2020 NHL Draft.
