Seattle Kraken Officially Name New Captain

For the first time since the 2021-22 season, the Seattle Kraken officially have a full-time captain.  The team announced on Tuesday that 14-year veteran and original Kraken member Jordan Eberle has had the 'C' sewn onto his jersey.

Eberle has been amongst the group of alternate captains since the team's inception in 2021, but after original captain Mark Giordano left after that season, the Kraken have gone without a full-time wearer of the 'C', and stuck with the group of four alternates.

Three other members of the expansion Seattle season, Adam Larsson, Yanni Gourde and Jaden Schwartz had shared the alternate role with Eberle for the past three years.

He was officially introduced to the home fans as the second captain in team history during the pre-game introductions at Tuesday afternoon's season opener at 'Climate Pledge' Arena.

In addition, youngster Matty Beniers joins the alternate captain leadership group.

Eberle, 34, is heading into his 15th NHL season after being a first-round pick of the Edmonton Oilers in 2008. He's an eight-time 20-goal scorer, including the first two years with the Kraken.

In 1,018 career games, he has 299 goals and 403 assists for 702 points.
