Toropchenko, 25, has appeared in seven games this season with the Blues, where he has one assist, seven penalty minutes, and 18 hits.
Toropchenko quietly had a breakout year with the Blues this past season. In 82 games with the Central Division club, he set new career highs with 14 goals, 21 points, and 165 hits. Overall, the 6-foot-6 forward proved that he can provide solid secondary scoring while also playing an incredibly heavy game. Because of this, it is understandable that the Blues have worked quickly to get the power forward signed to a new contract extension.
Toropchenko was selected by the Blues with the 113th overall pick of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft. In 186 career games over four seasons with the Blues thus far, he has 26 goals, 17 assists, 43 points, 64 penalty minutes, and 375 hits.
Overall, this is a good low-risk move for the Blues. Toropchenko is a promising young forward with good upside, and he has cemented himself as a solid part of the Blues' forward group. It will now be interesting to see how he responds to landing this nice new extension through his play from here.
