Tough Break for Golden Knights As Victor Olofsson Out For Extended Period

The Vegas Golden Knights have lost top-six forward Victor Olofsson for an extended period, after a lower-body injury that's already kept him out of the lineup for the past couple of games.

Vegas head coach Bruce Cassidy says that Olofsson will be out "week-to-week."

It's an especially tough break for the Golden Knights and Olofsson, after he got off to a tremendous start with his new club, far outplaying the one-year, $1.075 million free agent deal he signed with them this past summer.

The 29-year-old started his Vegas career with a pair of goals on opening night, then added another less than a week later, for three goals in his first four games.

The Swedish forward is a three-time 20-goal scorer, but struggled last season in his final year with the Buffalo Sabres, netting just 7 goals and 15 points in 51 games. That made it difficult for him to land a free agent contract this past summer, so he was forced to sign the one-year "prove it" deal. He's already making last season look like an aberration.

In his first four full seasons with Buffalo, he made the All-Rooke Team in 2019-20, and peaked with a 28-goal season in 2022-23, following reaching the 20-goal mark in two of the previous three years.

His great start with Vegas will now have to be put on hold.
