Tough Injury News for Hurricanes' Goaltender Frederik Andersen

The update on Carolina Hurricanes red-hot goaltender Frederik Andersen is not good. He was injured last weekend in a 4-1 victory over the Seattle Kraken, and now the team has learned he will be out week-to-week.

It's a lower-body injury, but Daily Faceoff insider Frank Seravalli reported that the issue is not connected to the blood clot issue that cost Andersen most of last season.

Losing the netminder comes at a bad time, as he was off to a tremendous start to the season, holding a league-leading 1.48 goals against average and a .941 save percentage.

Pyotr Kochetkov will now take over the top job between the pipes in Andersen's absence. He made the All-Rookie Team last year in his first full season for Carolina with a .911 Sv% and 2.33 GAA. This year, he's off to a 3-1-0 start with an .894 Sv% and 2.77 GAA.

Spencer Martin was also recalled earlier this week, but the Canes goaltending depth will be challenged if this turns into a long-term injury for Andersen.

The 35-year-old 'Great Dane' is in the final year of a two-year contract, with a cap hit of $3.4 million.

The Hurricanes are 6-2-0 thus far this season, and take a four-game winning streak into their game Thursday night against the Boston Bruins.
