Utah Gets Bad News on Sean Durzi

Terrible news for the Utah Hockey Club, as top-pairing defenseman Sean Durzi will be lost to the team for a considerable period of time with an upper-body injury.

Utah GM Bill Armstrong didn't sound very positive about Durzi's outlook, telling the media, “Last night we ended up losing Sean Durzi and it doesn’t look like he’s going to be back anytime soon. We’re going to have more young guys jump in and see what we can do here.”

The 4th-year D-man was injured in Monday night's 3-0 loss to the New Jersey Devils, after playing just over nine minutes in the game.

He was being counted on as a linchpin to the Utah blueline after signing a 4-year, $6 million AAV extension with the franchise this past June. Last year, in the final season in Arizona, Durzi recorded a career-high 32 assists and 41 points in 76 games, while also throwing his body in front of a personal-best 160 blocked shots.

Durzi was a second-round selection of the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, but they sent him to the Los Angeles Kings in January of 2019 in the Jake Muzzin trade.

Since then, he's recorded a total of 21 goals and 87 assists for 108 points in 216 games while averaging 20:48 of ice-time.
