Video: 'He Shoots, He Scores!': Filip Gustavsson With the Goalie Goal

Yes, Filip Gustavsson now has more goals than Auston Matthews and Connor McDavid combined this season. He scored the first 'goalie goal' in Minnesota Wild history on Tuesday night.

With the Wild officially on a power play, Gustavsson saw that gaping St. Louis Blues net, and let it fly, with purpose.

For the record, he says he’s never scored a goalie goal at any level before, and, as related by Michael Russo, Gustavsson jokes that he now wants to be in on power-play meetings.

His netminding partner, Marc-Andre Fleury, is actually the one who planted the seed in his head.

“Flower looked up to the board and was like, ‘We’re up two goals. You should probably try it if you get the chance. You’re shooting, right?’” Gustavsson recalled. “I was like, ‘Yeah, maybe I should.’”

This is the third straight season in the NHL that a goaltender has found the empty net. Tristan Jarry scored one last season and Linus Ullmark the year before.

It's the 18th goalie goal in NHL history (16 regular season, 2 postseason), per ESPN Stats & Info., and the 3rd power play goalie goal of all-time.

Now the pressure is really on Matthews if he wants another Rocket Richard as the NHL's top goal scorer this season.
