Boston Bruins Sign Tyler Johnson To One-Year Deal

The Boston Bruins have officially signed veteran forward Tyler Johnson to a one-year, $775,000 contract, cementing his place on the roster after a strong showing during a professional tryout this preseason.

Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney announced the signing, highlighting Johnson’s "experience and versatility" as valuable assets for the team’s depth.

Johnson, 34, earned praise from both teammates and the coaching staff after posting a goal and an assist in four preseason games. “He’s a guy who can jump in and help on both ends of the ice,” remarked head coach Jim Montgomery.

A seasoned NHL player, Johnson brings a wealth of experience with 738 career games, tallying 193 goals and 238 assists across his time with the Tampa Bay Lightning and Chicago Blackhawks.

Known for his contributions during Tampa Bay’s back-to-back Stanley Cup championships in 2020 and 2021, Johnson has demonstrated versatility in his ability to play both center and wing and his effectiveness on power play and penalty kill units.

Last season, he recorded 17 goals and 31 points in 67 games with Chicago, proving he can still produce offensively while providing leadership on and off the ice.

In signing Johnson, the Bruins strategically managed their cap space, a tactic they similarly employed with Danton Heinen last year, by waiting until the forward was ready for game action.

Now, Johnson is set to debut for Boston in Tuesday’s game against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
