Breaking: Brutal News for Ovechkin Revealed On Knee Injury
Terrible timing for Alexander Ovechkin. After recording five goals in his last two games to take him ever closer to becoming the NHL's all-time leading goal scorer, the Washington Capitals legend is listed as "week to week" with a "lower leg injury."
INJURY UPDATE: Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin sustained an injury to his lower leg during last night’s game in Utah, and is listed as week to week. Ovechkin will have further evaluation with team physicians in DC on Wednesday.

He left the game against Utah Monday night with about five minutes to play in the third period after a knee-on-knee collision with Jack McBain.
Looks like an MCL injury for Ovechkin.

The knee didn’t bend much, so hopefully a Grade 1 (1-2 weeks), but if it’s worse, could go up to 4-6 weeks.
Could also just be a knee contusion, but I doubt it.
Then again, it’s Ovi so he’ll probably beat any timeline we throw out. pic.twitter.com/K282yKRr7b
Sports medicine doctor @DaFootyMD speculated that it looked like an MCL injury. He notes if it's a Grade 1 injury, Ovechkin would be out for one to two weeks, but anything worse than that and he could be looking at up to a 4-6 week absence.
The Caps say they should know more on Wednesday.
Ovi had just taken over the NHL lead in goals, at the age of 39, with 15, after his recent outburst. He has 13 goals in his last 11 games. With 868 career goals, he's now just 27 away from passing Wayne Gretzky for first place on the NHL's all-time goals list. Incredibly, the 39-year-old Ovechkin is off to the best start through 18 games of his 20-year career.
Led by their iconic franchise superstar, the Capitals have been a tremendous story this season, leading the Eastern Conference with 27 points, at 13-4-1.
