Bruins Rumors: Jim Montgomery On His Way Out In Boston?

The Boston Bruins' rough start to the 2024-25 season has ignited serious speculation around head coach Jim Montgomery's future with the team.

After last year’s playoff run and his Jack Adams Award win, Montgomery entered the season with high expectations, even amid roster changes.

Yet the Bruins have stumbled to a 6-6-1 record with a concerning minus-8 goal differential, placing them near the bottom of the Atlantic Division.

Analyst Dennis Bernstein voiced his concerns on TSN Radio, stating, “If they don’t turn it around, they’ll fire the coach. The team looked disconnected.”

Boston’s traditionally disciplined, defense-first style has been missing, with inconsistent execution on both ends of the ice fueling frustrations.

Whispers of a disconnect between Montgomery and the locker room have only added to the turmoil.

Despite last year’s success, reports suggest that some players may not be fully in sync with his coaching style, leading to growing friction.

NHL Network analyst Bill Lindsay went as far as to predict, “Montgomery is not gonna be the coach of the Boston Bruins by Thanksgiving” if the team’s performance doesn’t improve soon.

Efforts to shake things up with line adjustments have yet to spark the necessary turnaround, and leaders like David Pastrnak have openly called for more consistency, hinting at deeper issues within the team dynamic.

For Montgomery, the pressure to deliver results is immense, especially with no contract extension beyond this season.

While he’s expressed confidence in his ability to right the ship, noting, “We will get out of it,” the Bruins' front office may not share his patience if the struggles continue.

With Boston’s high standards and a competitive division, insiders believe that general manager Don Sweeney might not wait long to make a coaching change if there’s no sign of improvement.
