Bruins Talking Trade With Two Western Conference Teams
The Boston Bruins are not going to be quiet this season as they look to make at least one move to get better. There have been a lot of talks that their top priority is to acquire a centerman, but it is being reported by Jimmy Murphy that Boston has had trade talks with the Anaheim Ducks and Utah HC.
It is pretty easy to work out who the Bruins would be in talks with the Ducks for. Trevor Zegras needs a change in scenery, and for the time being, is playing on the top line. Whether this is a showcase for a trade or solely because Mason McTavish is out of the lineup, either way, it is very likely that the Bruins have their eye on him. It would be interesting to see what return Zegras could get at this point after all of his recent struggles with the Ducks.
Zegras is young and would be in a pretty good spot stepping into the second line of Boston. It is evident the skill is there after back-to-back 23-goal, 60+ point seasons as a rookie and a sophomore. The Bruins are a team that is competing rather than rebuilding, so it might be the best case scenario for the Bruins, Ducks, and Zegras.
As for Utah, I don't think young centers like Logan Cooley or Barret Hayton are going anywhere anytime soon, so it is more of a guessing game who the Bruins could be in trade talks for from this team. Utah is .500 on the season through 17 games, out of a playoff spot, and have only won three of their past 10 games. It doesn't look like another season in which this team will compete, so business may be open down the line to even trade players not on expiring contracts as well.
The Bruins need help and aren't likely to get very far this season without it. The team has locked in their core group, so it's just time to add around the edges and ensure that the team can get over the hump after so much regular season success in recent years.
