Canadiens Rumors: Mike Matheson Becoming Prime Trade Candidate
The Montreal Canadiens have had a rough start to the season. At this juncture of the year, they have a 7-10-2 record and are at the bottom of the Atlantic Division standings. Due to this, it seems likely that they will be sellers once we get closer to the 2025 NHL Trade Deadline.
Because of this, NHL insider Frank Seravalli listed Matheson at the No. 9 spot in his most recent Trade Targets Board for Daily Faceoff.
Matheson, 30, currently has a $4.875 million contract until the completion of the 2025-26 season. Due to this, he would be more than a rental for any interested clubs. With this, his trade value is quite high, and the Canadiens are in a prime position to take advantage of that.
Matheson has a strong start to the season with the Canadiens, as he has one goal and 13 points in 19 games. During this past season with the Habs, he had 11 goals and set new career highs with 51 assists and 62 points. With this, he could be an incredibly hot commodity once we get closer to the trade deadline.
Teams looking for more offense from the point should surely be in the mix for Matheson's services. We will need to wait and see if he ends up finding a new home before the deadline passes from here.
