A name generating interest in the market is @Canucks F Hoglander. He’s 24, with cost certainty given his current 3Yr 3M AAV, and skilled. I’m told the Caps, Pens and CBJ are among clubs that’ve explored the possibility. #HockeyX pic.twitter.com/fNqb1S43gh
Hoglander, 23, would be more than a rental for any team that acquires him, as he has a three-year, $9 million contract extension that kicks in during the 2025-26 season.
Hoglander broke out this past season, as he set new career highs with 24 goals and 36 points in 80 games played. However, he has had a bit of a tough start to the 2024-25 campaign, as he has two goals, three assists, and a minus-3 rating in 21 games played so far.
However, even with the slow start to the season, it is easy to understand why he is starting to generate interest. He showed last season that he has the potential to be a solid scorer.
It will be interesting to see what the Canucks do with Hoglander from here, but the Capitals, Penguins, and Blue Jackets are three clear teams to watch in the sweepstakes.
