Flames' Devin Cooley Becoming Trade Candidate

With Dustin Wolf and Dan Vladar ahead of him on the Calgary Flames depth chart in net, goaltender Devin Cooley might just be playing for a role with another team right now with the Calgary Wranglers. And Cooley is certainly doing all he can to get rival teams' attention. He has just been named the AHL Player of the Week.

Cooley racked up two shutouts (giving him three on the season) and a .976 save percentage in four games with a 0.64 goals-against average for the Wranglers, and now has an 8-2-0 record with a .954 Sv% and a 1.46 GAA in the AHL this season.

Will he be suiting up in the NHL for the Flames in the coming months, or another team? According to insider Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff, Cooley has made himself into a prime trade candidate for teams in need between the pipes.

There’s a bunch of teams who could use a Devin Cooley to cool things off, so to speak. If that does end up happening, he’s one name to keep an eye on, thanks to the hot start that he’s had.

Seravalli specifically notes the goaltending situations with the Colorado Avalanche and the Philadelphia Flyers as two teams we should keep an eye on as possibly looking towards Cooley at some point.

At 27, he's spent the vast majority of his career in the AHL and ECHL, with only six games of NHL experience, last season with the San Jose Sharks (it wasn't memorable, as he went 2-3-1 with a 4.98 GAA and an .870 Sv%.

2022-23 with the Milwaukee Admirals was his best career season, until now, when he went 15-8-2 with a 2.93 GAA and a .909 Sv%.
