Flames' Trade Report: Calgary's GM trying to trade for top-six center
According to TSN's Darren Dreger, the Calgary Flames are in the trade market trying to land a top-six center. GM Craig Conroy is in an interesting spot with the Flames, as they have overachieved this season, and Calgary has a whopping $25.7 million in cap space.
Dreger mentions Conroy has been scouting the OHL recently, however the rest of his attention has been linked to finding a centre on the trade market. The Flames currently have Nazem Kadri and Mikael Backlund down the middle of the ice in the top-six, and ideally, Backlund would be moved down to the third line, and Kadri potentially down to the second line.
It won't be easy for Conroy to pull off a trade as a ton of teams will likely be asking for young forward Connor Zary, however, Conroy has two 2025 first-round picks, two second-round picks, and two 2026 first-round picks.
Dreger mentions that the centre Conroy covets has to be 'age-appropriate' as ideally it's a second-line centre who can play with the organization for the next 3-to-5 years. Dreger mentions Conroy should be an interesting GM to watch because he could very aggressive should the Flames continue to sit comfortably in a playoff spot.
The trade deadline is set for March 7, keep an eye on the Flames as it sounds like a couple of moves could be coming long before the spring.
