Flyers Trade Rumors: Morgan Frost Linked to Central Division Team

Morgan Frost is in John Tortorella's doghouse. The 25-year-old center has been a healthy scratch in four of the past five games with the Philadelphia Flyers. As an impending restricted free agent, could his time in Philly be coming to an end?

Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman has speculated as much, proposing in his latest 32 Thoughts column that Frost and the Chicago Blackhawks would be a good trade fit.

Player-team that seem a match: Morgan Frost and Chicago. Frost didn’t play Wednesday against Carolina, the fourth game of the last five he’s watched from the press box. He’s not a complainer, prefers to keep any displeasure behind closed doors, but players want to play. Obviously, any dance needs partners who deal, but the Blackhawks, in dire need of centres, are one team that makes sense for him.

There are plenty of teams out there looking for help at center, and as Friedman notes, the Hawks are one of them. Frost is certainly young enough to fit into Chicago's long-term rebuild plan, and he has the upside to grow with the team.

The Blackhawks have a couple of second-round picks in next year's draft (theirs and the Dallas Stars') — would that get a deal done?

Friedman then added the Hawks could have some competition if they were interested in the Flyers' center: “I’ve heard there’s a few teams looking at this. Centers are hard to find. I still think Frost is trying to find his way in the NHL,” he said on his 32 Thoughts podcast. "He is a center. He does have some pedigree. I do think teams are looking at that.”

Frost had a fine season in 2022-23 and seemed to be breaking through, with 19 goals and 46 points. But he slipped a bit to 13 goals last season with 41 points, and this year has found the net just once, with six points in 16 games.
