Insider: Buffalo Sabres GM "Mulling A Shake-Up"
It's been out there in the ether that the Buffalo Sabres are getting a little antsy about their rollercoaster start to the season and that they're looking for a top-six forward, among other things, on the trade market.
They've also been approached by teams looking to capitalize on any nerves in the Buffalo front office by trying to poach some of their talented young players.
Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli caught up with GM Kevyn Adams at this week's GM Meetings, and he writes that the Sabres are "mulling a shakeup".
"The Buffalo Sabres are at a crossroads," penned Seravalli. "In a year with increased expectations and mounting pressure, they got off to their worst start in seven seasons. That’s saying something, since (the) clock is running on the longest active playoff drought in North American pro sports at 13 years."
And Adams doesn't want to use any excuses, he's finally looking for some results.
We may be young, but we have too much experience now to be considered a young team. Look through our roster, you’ll see a lot of guys with a few hundred NHL games now, and that can’t be used as an excuse. We need to start to turn that experience into results.
Seravalli says his sources confirm that Adams has been active calling around looking for help. And he opines that the Buffalo GM is at a very difficult turning point, wrestling with the question of whether to stay the course or if now is the right time to "shake up the Sabres" in an effort to finally get them over that playoff hump.
They will definitely be one of the teams to watch as we head into the next few weeks and months up to the trade deadline.
