Insider: Predators Still Want To Make "Changes"

The Nashville Predators want to make changes to their roster as they continue to grapple with inconsistency this season, according to Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman.

Speaking on Sirius XM NHL Network Radio, Friedman emphasized that General Manager Barry Trotz is currently pursuing moves to address the team’s struggles.

"I don’t think this is a question of how much longer Barry Trotz can afford to stand pat," Friedman said. "I think he has made it very clear that he’s trying to get things done."

However, Trotz faces some difficulty in the trade market, where other teams may seek to exploit Nashville’s vulnerable position, making it crucial for him to avoid decisions that could backfire.

One of the Predators’ key issues is their lack of speed, which has hampered their ability to compete effectively.

Friedman noted that Trotz is exploring options to add a defenseman or center but is also prioritizing players who can improve the team’s overall quickness and mobility.

"They look slow," Friedman remarked, suggesting that addressing pace is a top priority. The recent trade of Philip Tomasino to Pittsburgh shows Nashville’s willingness to move younger players in search of a better fit for their immediate needs.

While Tomasino’s departure reflects the team’s urgency, younger players like Luke Evangelista and Jusso Parssinen have also struggled to find consistent roles.

As the Predators approach a critical juncture in the season, Trotz is focused on reshaping the roster to avoid falling further behind in the competitive Central Division.

Despite slow progress in the trade market, Friedman believes changes are imminent: "I can just see them trying to do something."
