Insider Proposes 4 More Senators as Trade Candidates
The Ottawa Senators need to do something to shake up the roster as the team is off to another disappointing start. And while Josh Norris's name has been making the rounds, a report on Friday from insider Anthony Di Marco of Daily Faceoff has dropped four more names who, if moved, could really transform the team.
As Di Marco notes, once you eliminate the likes of Jake Sanderson, Tim Stutzle, Brady Tkachuk and Claude Giroux (the latter is next to unmovable with a huge cap hit and a full no-move clause) from the discussion, it leaves him with four names to consider, whether management likes it or not:
Shane Pinto
According to Di Marco, GM Steve Staios has no desire to trade Pinto, the 24-year-old who is off to a brutal start to the season with just one goal and three points in 14 games. "But," as Di Marco writes, "you have to give to get in this league, and (he) could fetch solid returns via trade and shake things up among the forward group."
Ridly Greig
The 22-year-old can be considered in the same boat as Pinto. A potential piece at center for the future in Ottawa, but off to a slow start (2 goals in 19 games), and also capable of bringing back a decent return in a trade.
Thomas Chabot
A nine-year Senators veteran who still has another three seasons to go on his $8M cap hit, the top-four defenseman would be tough to give up, but also, as Di Marco notes, would represent a major shake-up if he is moved.
Drake Batherson
The top-six forward has built himself up into an important offensive producer for the team, registering 28 goals last season and 66 points, both career highs. He has two more seasons after this one at a $4.975 cap hit, and his loss would also indicate a major change. With his reasonable price tag and solid production, he could bring back a nice haul. He's on a point-per-game pace this season with 23 points in 22 games.
