Kings Rumors: LA Looking To Sign Pending RFA Alex Laferriere Long-Term?

Alex Laferriere has emerged as a solid offensive contributor for the Los Angeles Kings early in the 2024-25 season, tallying 15 points in 22 games and second on the team in goals.

The 23-year-old forward, who recorded 23 points across 81 games last season, has made significant strides in his game, particularly in his shot and net-front presence.

His breakout performance has provided a much-needed boost for an otherwise average offensive unit, yet the Kings are taking a patient approach to his pending restricted free agency next summer.

As David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period noted, “It’s a little bit too premature... let this kid play, let him build his confidence, and see if he can remain consistent offensively.”

Drafted in the fourth round out of Harvard, Laferriere’s rapid rise shows the Kings’ ability to develop under-the-radar talent.

While he is currently on pace for an unlikely 46 goals, analyst Dennis Bernstein emphasized his tangible growth. “He’s not a 46-goal scorer, but he’s improved his shot, goes to the net, and gets traffic,” Bernstein explained. “Nobody at the start of the season had him at any point in time being their leading goal-scorer on their bingo card.”

With Laferriere’s restricted free agent status looming, the Kings hold a favorable position, as he lacks arbitration rights, giving them leverage in contract talks.

A modest raise into the $2 million range is expected, aligning with GM Rob Blake’s track record of securing value deals for players like Mikey Anderson and Adrian Kempe.

For now, the Kings are focused on allowing Laferriere to sustain his strong play and build consistency. As Bernstein summarized, “He just has to keep playing and keep producing, and he’ll get paid fairly.”
