Latest Trade Board: A New #1 and 5 New Names Populate Top 20 Trade Targets

We're now just over two months away from the NHL's trade deadline, and the names on the rumor mill have started to shift and re-populate. Insider Frank Seravalli has issued his latest Daily Faceoff Trade Board, that now includes five new names from the previous list earlier this month, and a new No. 1 target.

As we've all heard in recent days, Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman David Jiricek is the name on everyone's lips these days, and a trade is seen as imminent for the recent No. 6 overall draft pick (2022), with 5 teams being mentioned as having made concrete offers. He has vaulted to No. 1 on Seravalli's list.

Other new names on the Trade Board list are as follows:

  • Morgan Frost, Philadelphia Flyers (debuting at #3 on the list)
  • Jacob Trouba, New York Rangers (making his season debut at #6)
  • Josh Norris, Ottawa Senators (enters at #9)
  • Trent Frederic, Boston Bruins (takes the #16 spot)
  • Chris Kreider, NY Rangers (#20)

The news emerged this week that the Senators were taking calls on Norris, one of their young core pieces, as did the word of the Rangers putting it out there that Trouba and Kreider were two names they were considering moving as they look to shake things up. Trouba has been on the rumor mill since last spring, while Kreider was a surprising add to the chatter.

Frost is back in Flyers coach John Tortorella's doghouse, a familiar place for him to be. He's suffered numerous healthy scratches under Torts, both last year and already this season. He just hasn't lived up to the promise in his time in Philly, and a change of scenery seems to be inevitable.

Trent Frederic's name on this list could be more about the fact that he "has drawn lots of interest from around the league," says Seravalli. He plays hard, he plays physical (204 hits last season), and he provides nice secondary scoring in the bottom six (35 goals total in the previous two seasons). But he is an impending UFA, and the vultures will be circling if the Bruins are up to making more moves to stir things up.
