NHL Trade Rumors: Blues & Sabres Talking Trade?

The Buffalo Sabres and St. Louis Blues could be on the verge of becoming natural trade partners as both teams look to address their respective roster needs, according to Jason Moser of Buffalo Hockey Now

Sabres GM Kevyn Adams has been pursuing upgrades to bolster his team’s playoff push, a strategy confirmed by NHL insiders Elliotte Friedman, Pierre LeBrun, and Frank Seravalli.

Meanwhile, the Blues, mired in a disappointing season with a .438 point percentage and a three-game losing streak, appear to be evaluating their options.

The presence of Blues GM Doug Armstrong and assistant GM Tim Taylor at consecutive Sabres home games has only fueled speculation about potential trade discussions.

The Blues offer intriguing possibilities for the Sabres, ranging from depth options like Kasperi Kapanen to more impactful names such as Brandon Saad.

Kapanen, a speedy and defensively reliable winger on a one-year, $1 million deal, fits Buffalo’s need for bottom-six reinforcements without a heavy cost.

Saad, on the other hand, brings veteran leadership and offensive potential, having scored 26 goals last season, though his $4.5 million cap hit through 2025 makes him a pricier investment.

For an even bolder move, the Sabres could inquire about stars like Pavel Buchnevich or Jordan Kyrou, though their significant contracts and importance to the Blues make such deals less likely.

As Moser notes, “It’s not clear if a trade with the Blues makes sense just yet, but there’s no doubt St. Louis is mulling their options.”

With both teams motivated—Buffalo to strengthen its roster for a playoff push and St. Louis to retool after a poor start—their shared scouting activity points to a potentially productive partnership in the coming weeks.
