NHL Trade Rumors: Hurricanes Seeking A Goaltender

The Carolina Hurricanes are intensifying their search for goaltending help after injuries sidelined Frederik Andersen and Pyotr Kochetkov, leaving their crease in disarray.

Andersen underwent knee surgery earlier this month and is expected to miss 8-12 weeks, while Kochetkov remains in concussion protocol following a practice collision.

According to NHL insider Kevin Weekes, the Hurricanes are "actively exploring the goalie market" to address the situation, as current options Spencer Martin and ECHL call-up Yaniv Perets have struggled to fill the void.

Martin's concerning .856 save percentage and 3.33 goals-against average show the team's urgency to secure a more reliable option.

Although Kochetkov is reportedly making "positive progress" in his recovery, Weekes noted that uncertainty around his timeline has heightened the Hurricanes’ urgency to act.

“If it was a quick rebound, they might have been more sure to ride with Martin,” Weekes shared. With a strong 16-5-1 start to the season and a solid position in the Metropolitan Division, the Hurricanes are eager to maintain momentum, particularly with critical matchups against the New York Rangers and reigning champion Florida Panthers looming.

However, consistent goaltending is critical to sustaining their success and remaining competitive in the Eastern Conference.

Potential trade targets for Carolina include Anaheim Ducks’ John Gibson and former Hurricane Petr Mrazek, now with the Chicago Blackhawks.

Both are seen as viable options to stabilize the crease during Andersen’s absence and provide insurance as Kochetkov recovers.
