NHL Trade Rumors: Predators Talked Dante Fabbro Trade With A Few Teams

The Nashville Predators attempted to trade defenseman Dante Fabbro to several teams before ultimately placing him on waivers, where he was claimed by the Columbus Blue Jackets, according to Alex Daugherty of The Tennessean.

General Manager Barry Trotz acknowledged that while trade talks with multiple teams were explored, none materialized, forcing the team to take the risk of losing Fabbro for nothing.

“We felt it was a good time to put [Fabbro] on waivers,” Trotz explained, highlighting the potential benefits of cap flexibility and roster space. The Blue Jackets absorbed Fabbro’s $2.5 million contract, giving the Predators some breathing room.

The decision came just months after Fabbro signed a $2.5 million extension in March, a move intended as insurance in case Alex Carrier departed in free agency.

Trotz admitted losing Fabbro was not ideal, but he expressed confidence in the organization’s depth and the opportunity to evaluate younger talent.

“You lose a player you’ve spent some time on, but you also get a chance to look at other players in the organization who have played extremely well,” he said.

One of those players is Adam Wilsby, a 2020 fourth-round pick recalled from Milwaukee, who is expected to make his NHL debut. Trotz praised Wilsby’s mobility and defensive capabilities, suggesting he fits the team’s current needs.

Meanwhile, Fabbro has recorded one goal and one assist in three games with the Blue Jackets after going pointless in six games this season with Nashville.
