Penguins Rumors: Matt Grzelcyk Standing Out As Trade Candidate

The Pittsburgh Penguins currently have a disastrous 6-9-2 record, and things only seem to be getting worse for the Metropolitan Division club. In their latest matchup against the Dallas Stars, they allowed six goals in the first period and lost by a 7-1 final score.

If the Penguins are unable to turn things around soon and find themselves out of the playoff race this season, one player who we could very well end up seeing moved is defenseman Matt Grzelcyk.

Grzelcyk, 30, signed a one-year, $2.75 million contract with the Penguins during this past offseason. This was after he spent the previous eight seasons as a a key part of the Boston Bruins' blue line.

If Grzelcyk finds himself made available later this season, he should generate a good amount of interest. This is because he can handle playing top-four minutes and has a reasonable cap hit for his role. In addition, it does not hurt that he has a lot of playoff experience due to his days with the Bruins.

In 17 games this season with the Penguins, Grzelcyk has seven assists, 13 hits, and a minus-8 rating.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Grzelcyk during this season from here.
