Penguins Rumors: Rickard Rakell Becoming Potential Trade Candidate

It has been an ugly start to the season for the Pittsburgh Penguins. At this juncture of the campaign, they have a 5-7-2 record and have won only three out of their last 10 games. If they do not turn things around soon, they will likely be sellers this season.

One specific Penguin who could end up on the move this campaign if the Metropolitan Division club sells is forward Rickard Rakell.

Rakell, 31, has been the subject of trade rumors in the past, and his play right now is raising his value. At this point of the season, the 2011 first-round pick has six goals, 11 points, and a plus-5 rating in 14 games. Overall, he is off to a hot start, and he could generate a lot of interest because of it.

Rakell would be more than a rental for any team interested ,as he has a $5 million cap hit until the completion of the 2027-28 season. Thus, both playoff and non-playoff teams could be in the mix for the veteran forward if he is made available.

We will now need to wait and see what happens with Rakell from here. He could get the Penguins a very nice return if they opt to shop him.
