Penguins Rumors: Trade interest heating up on Bryan Rust

Pittsburgh Penguins president and general manager Kyle Dubas turned some heads on Wednesday night, as Dubas was in attendance for the Detroit Red Wings and Calgary Flames games. The Penguins are reportedly open for business and trade rumors are starting to heat up in a major way between all three hockey clubs.

One Penguins forward to keep an eye on is Bryan Rust. According to The Fourth Period, Rust is a player teams are keeping an eye on as a prime trade candidate out of Pittsburgh. The 32-year-old winger is owed $5.12 million AAV through the 2027-28 season. Rust owns a no-movement clause, which expires on July 1, 2025.

So far through 17 games this season, Rust has scored seven goals and 11 points. The Penguins defeated the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday night and now are 8-12-4 on the year, good for second last in the Eastern Conference.

Per David Pagnotta regarding Rust's availability:
Well, he’s available. If you talk to people around the league, Kyle Dubas has made it known that pretty much everybody including Rust is available. You mentioned he has a no-movement clause – that expires July 1, 2025.

For teams that want to get an offensive guy, he’s gonna be attractive piece. Now, I can tell you (the Penguins) have not had any discussions with Rust or his camp about the possibility of waving his no-movement clause. It’s too early right now, that hasn’t even crossed their minds.

The Penguins are expected to make a major shakeup and Rust is a prime trade candidate to be moved as Dubas looks to make his hockey club younger, while improving the talent level. No easy task to say the least.
