Report: Bruins "On The Verge Of A Big Change"

It's been a wild rollercoaster ride the past couple of weeks for the Boston Bruins, who are still trying to regain their top form. An overtime loss to ex-Bruin Linus Ullmark and the Ottawa Senators came right on the heels of an OT win over the Calgary Flames, which was preceded by a moribund 4-0 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Oh, and before that, they recorded two straight shutout wins, right after an 8-2 drubbing at the hands of the Carolina Hurricanes. So what gives?

According to a report by Jimmy Murphy in rg.org, something big in Boston is actually about to give.

Based on chatter coming out of Toronto at the Hall of Fame inductions, where some NHL general managers were ahead of the NHL GM meetings, there is a common belief that the Boston Bruins could be on the verge of a ‘big’ change.

'Just be on the lookout. People are starting to leak,' a well-placed, NHL executive replied to RG when asked about the Bruins on Sunday.

Could this be a big trade? Or, more likely, a coaching change? Bench boss Jim Montgomery was fuming after being outshot 12-0 in the 3rd period and then losing to their former goalie Ullmark in OT the other night.

"We just weren't good enough," Montgomery told reporters. "You guys can write what you guys think is the malaise on the team and what's going wrong. We're just not playing good enough".

Bruins general manager Don Sweeney has plenty of potential moves to consider.

“He is looking for help, make no mistake about it,” the same NHL exec said. "It's no secret that (Sweeney) wants a scoring winger for the top six, but don’t be surprised if he snags another top-6 center."

But more likely, Montgomery must be looking over his shoulder at this point.
