Insider's Post Suggests Igor Shesterkin Record-Breaking Signing To Be Done Soon

ESPN's hockey insider Kevin Weekes dropped an intriguing post on Twitter (X) late Thursday afternoon, which has some around the game thinking that the long-expected massive extension could be coming in short order for Igor Shesterkin and the New York Rangers.

Weekes posted an image of the New York City skyline, along with the caption, simply, "$ 11.5M?"

Shesterkin has put himself in line to top Carey Price ($10.5M AAV) as the highest-paid goaltender in the history of the NHL, and the $11. 5 million annual number has been bandied about for the Rangers' netminder (though $12 million has also been out there).

But Weekes is known to drop some cheeky hints at an impending big breaking news story, so plenty of watchers are getting excited about this one.

Heading into Thursday night's action, Shesterkin had been downright incredible once again this season for the Blueshirts, posting a league-leading .933 save percentage and a 2.22 goals-against average, with a 6-2-1 mark. He has a career .921 Sv% in 5+ seasons.

Let's just call the five-goal blowout he suffered at the hands of the Buffalo Sabres Thursday night a mulligan. We don't think that'll put the kibosh any potential  Shesterkin extension.
