Sabres Considering Big Trade Involving Veterans
Through 18 games, the Buffalo Sabres have a negative win-loss record and sit outside of a playoff spot. This isn't a new spot for this team as they have been rebuilding for way too long. There are a ton of talented younger players on the team, but it was reported by Darren Dreger that the Sabres are willing to consider a big trade, but don't want to trade away young talent.
This doesn't mean that the Sabres are willing to bring in some more young talent to add to what they already have even though this isn't necessarily a recipe for success. Every team needs some experience and players who have been to the playoffs many times and know what it takes.
There have been a couple of trades involving Buffalo's young talent that has seen a younger player go out and one brought in. The Sabres swapped Casey Mittelstadt for Bowen Byram and more recently traded Matthew Savoie in exchange for Ryan McLeod.
Some veterans or older players on the Sabres that the team could consider moving out in a trade include Jason Zucker, Sam Lafferty, Jordan Greenway, or Connor Clifton. Zucker in particular should not be moved as he is one of the players on Buffalo contributing a good amount, and from the third line.
The Sabres have such a young and well rounded team, but just haven't been able to put it together and it is tough to get better when some players are improving while others have declined. One thing that should be true is that if the Sabres continue to lose or stay outside of a playoff spot, there will be more moves coming to shake things up.
