Video: Blues' Philip Broberg injured vs. Maple Leafs

St Louis Blues defenseman Philip Broberg left Saturday night's game against the Toronto Maple Leafs with a lower-body injury.

The incident occurred in the second period against the Leafs, after Broberg suffered a leg injury pushing the puck down the offensive wall. Leafs forward Mitch Marner tried to block Broberg from proceeding deeper into the zone and next thing you know the two got tangled up.

Broberg's leg bent in very awkward fashion, and he laid on the ice in pain before eventually being helped off the ice.

The Blues entered this season shorthanded on the blueline, so losing Broberg for any amount of time is going to be tough to replace. In 12 games so far this season, the Swedish d-man and former Edmonton Oilers first-round pick has nine points, is a +9 rating and is playing over 20 minutes per game.

Broberg signed a two-year, $4,580,917 AAV, with Edmonton receiving a second-round pick in next year’s NHL Draft as compensation.
