4 Players Hit Waivers In Final Day Before Holiday Roster Freeze

The NHL's Holiday Roster Freeze kicks in at midnight Thursday night. No moves will be allowed after that until December 27th at one minute after midnight. Trying to beat the freeze, four teams have placed players on waivers on Wednesday.

  • Colorado Avalanche - LW Tye Felhaber
  • Nashville Predators - D Marc Del Gaizo
  • NY Islanders - D Grant Hutton
  • Winnipeg Jets - D Dylan Coghlan
Just three days after signing a two-year contract with the Avalanche, and making his NHL debut on Monday, Tye Felhaber will head to waivers, and likely back down to the Colorado Eagles of the AHL where he's played 23 games (8 goals, 13 points) this season. The 26-year-old winger has spent the last five years bouncing between the AHL and ECHL.

The Predators, who are expected to make some big moves in the coming weeks, have made one that does not qualify as such, by putting Del Gaizo, 26, on waivers. He's gotten into 20 games with Nashville this season, playing 15:42 per night on average, but recording just three assists.

Adam Pelech and Alexander Romanov are back on the Islanders blueline, leaving Hutton out in the cold. So he'll head to waivers, and likely back down to Bridgeport in the AHL. He's played 12 games on the Island this year, and 30 in his pro career.

For Coghlan, the 26-year-old offensive defenseman, he's back on waivers again and hasn't really had a good chance to stick in the NHL for three seasons. He has appeared in 107 career NHL games, 59 of them in 2021-22 with the Vegas Golden Knights. He's compiled a total of six goals and 22 points across those 107 games at 13:49 of ice time a night.
